Hi!! My name is Jenni. We just got my youngest son a RES for an early Christmas gift in October. He is loving the little guy/girl (not sure of gender yet as the little one is only 3 1/2inches and under two years). When we first got Hermes, he was around 2"!! So he's grown by leaps and bounds!! But....we did find out that we were overfeeding him. So we've cut down his feedings to once a day on the pellets (we were doing it twice a day but only a few pellets at a time). We're moving him to a bigger tank next month. Right now, he's still in a 10 gallon tank. Moving him to 50 gallon...he's going to be in HEAVEN!! LOL

Welcome! Hermes is cute. I just adopted a RES that looks like yours. I just joined too and upgrading Myrtle to a 55 gallon next week. I am also a mom living in western PA not far from you so we have somethings in common. I just love my turtle and my kids are enjoying her too. I am hoping my love for turtles & tortoises will pass on to them! My turtle has so much personality how could they not enjoy her. THey think my tortoise is boring but like the turtle. This forum is great and I am glad I found it.

Welcome to the forum! Are you able to get in on that Petco tank deal?

Unfortunately, not. But I'm getting a 50 gallon tank within the month with tax money. Also getting a new filter if need be and other odds and ends. :)

Found someone who's selling me a set of 55 gallon tanks cheap(one for the turtle and one for my daughter's Robo dwarf hamsters). Picking them up Saturday!! I was approached by someone today asking if I'd like to adopt a female painted turtle. Would Hermes and she do good together in the same tank?

Also, is a NEXX filter a good brand?

Not really a good filter for turtles. As for adding a another turtle… well, it's always very tricky unless you have a plan in place to keep them housed separately if necessary.
