Well I'm Tiffany, I don't have any turtles but a coworker is trying to find a home for a friend of hers 2. I'm not 100% they are in fact RES. So far I was told they were shipped in, come with a "really big" tank and will only grow as big as the tank  I'm sure that spiel has been heard a time or two around here before. But sounds like they are already quite large and she's pretty sure have red in the name. I have always liked turtles and talked myself out of them each time because of the lifespan and habitat size but this has got me re considering. I live in MN so would have to do an indoor setup and I'd prefer a male if she has one, I don't want both. Thinking we could setup a stock tank in my basement. Here to do some more indepth research before I make a decision. I do already have a houseful of animals, 3 pit bulls, 2 ferrets, a cat, iguana, ball python, hognose, feeder mice and several aquariums, 2 saltwater nanos, a 135 gallon piranha and a 12 gallon freshwater community tank.

Hi Tiffany, welcome to the forum! If the turtle is male and the tank is say 55 gallons, you probably don't need to upgrade. Sounds like you have a handful, but RES make great pets too :)

Sounds like you have your hands full! Wow! I am sure your turtle will be spoiled if you decide to take him.

I have a 300 gallon stock tank in my basement. You can buy one and an fx6 and heaters etc for way less than what you would pay for a large glass tank. Let us know if you decide to get the turtle. And welcome!
