My name is Ben. i live in Las Vegas, NV. I recently became a new RES owner. A buddy of mine came in from New Orleans and had some crawfish overnighted here. as we were sifting through the good and bad crawfish we found this RES.

I decided to keep him and bought everything he needed. Now about $400 later and a couple weeks, I have fallen in love with this little guy. He is only about 2 1/2" long.i look forward to being a part of this community and learning more about these great fellas!

Welcome to the forum! Your set-up is great, I'm sure your turtle will be happy in his new home. What did you name him?

Welcome to the forum! Wow, tough little guy. Looks like you're off to a good start... though I just noticed that's a "turtle tank"? A regular aquarium will be cheaper and a better value. I'd also reconsider the small rocks... sand, bare bottoms and fewer large river rock are other options. Small rocks/gravel can pose impaction problems and well as trap a lot of waste.

I'm starting to notice the waste problem. I thought about sand and might reconsider that option. I figured the turtle tank would be ok for now. Once he starts getting bigger within the next year or so, I'm planning on getting a 150 gal tank with a basking area above it. By then I'll know more about these guys and can maybe get 1 or 2 more.

BTW his name is Raphael.

Wait until he's 4" or so and you can confirm his sex. Males almost always become aggressive and need to be separated.

Welcome to the site, what a find. I never heard of that before! A 150 is a great choice, I'd say make that your next purchase so you don't waste money on another tank. I have a 150 gal with a male in it. The tank provides plenty on swim room and depth. You can build a basking spot with driftwood from a lake. This option allows you to design something you want. Check my build thread, to see if you like something like it. Start saving now to get the lights, filters and such. Good luck:)
