I just got my hatchlings last wednesday and they have been very flighty. Well this morning one of them(the one i decided to name squirt) acted a lil nervous at first but once i stuck the food in the water he or she came up slowly and ate right from my fingers. I felt so happy i wanted to do the happy dance lol. Now my other hatchling is not too interested in geting anywhere near me. Every time i get near the tank he or she runs away and tries to hide so i decided to call him or her scat

Congrats nyoder :)
First time when I tried to feed my RES she was so scared and went to hiding. So I left the lettuce to the tank. And so whole week.
Second time instead the lettuce she bite my finger thinking "Hmm thats one fat earthworm". Again...I left the food to the tank everyday for the next week.
Third time I took chopsticks, took one shrimp and I gave it to her like that...instead the shrimp she attacked the chopsticks close to my fingers. Then I realized she was afraid my hand, but why? Was it something from the past that scared her, but what? So for the whole next month I patiently everyday took her out from the tank, put her another container and gave her food and one day she just looked to me stretched her neck out then was thinking "should I take the lettuce or not" and then gently reached and took the mouthful lettuce.
Right now she's been with me three months and I am able to feed her in my hand and she doesn't afraid me or bite me anymore. I almost forgot that I really don't know how old my RES is, because I found her wodering around in the autumn.
