Hi everyone. My name is Shawn. I have a 5-6 year old RES named Trixie. She was my mom's turtle, all of 4" long at first. Then mom decided to go back to school, and felt that between school and work she didn't have time to take proper care of Trixie, so she asked if I wanted her. I couldn't pass up the opportunity, but I hadn't seen her in quite a while and was surprised when my mom brough over a 9" turtle. She's been here with us for about a year now, and she's easily 10-11".

I stumbled across the site here, specifically the forums, which searching for filter cleaning tips. Seems my Fluval 405 doesn't have the flow it did when my mom first brought everything over, and I clean it every two weeks. I'm looking forward to learning from and sharing with everyone. My poor Trixie's tank is too small for her (based on the research I've been doing), so when I'm able to get her an upgrade, I'll be sharing photos of that as well.

Indeed. She went from being smaller than a fist to needing two fists to pick her up and carry her!

Welcome to the forum! How big is her tank now? You can remove the smaller rocks (anything smaller than her head). When you get a new tank, you'll also want something that can support the edges of the tank as well.

Thank you. Right now she is in a 40 gallon breeder tank. I am trying to come up with something more along the lines of 100-125 gallons that is cheap and as easy, if not easier to clean. It also has to fit into the house somewhere as Wisconsin Winters aren't very warm.

I usually price used tanks on craigslist between 55-100 gallons at $1 per gallon. A good tank stand would increase that price.
