So, I'm not all that good at introducing myself, but I'm Darren my GF is Jen and we got ourselves a few new friends as of lately at our home.
We have a nice home in a country setting just outside of our small capital city in the great province of NB, Canada.
the story of how we got our turtles is kinda neat to be honest.
See my and GF and I are animal lovers and she was due to move into my home and we "are getting serious". We decided we wanted some pets. I already had a dog that we loved dearly. So with our rubber boots on we went out to the brook in my back yard and a cheap dollarstore butterfly net. We got all kinds of neat minnows chubs a few salmon par that we released and a few trout that as well we released and allot of little crayfish. We brought them home and put them in a neat clear rubbermaid tub i had.
it was that way for about 3-4 weeks till all of a sudden it sprung a leak in a small crack. So we needed a tank so our fish would not die and we were not about to let them go back in the wild(keep reading that is bad so we avoid it). So off to kijiji we went and found an add for a 33 Gallon tank and filter and all the amenities and 2 big RES(Jingles and Sally), for only $80. A steal of a deal for a proper tank and a proper pet with personality.
So after getting them on a whim, we start to do research. These bigger turtles need a way bigger tank. So off to kijiji and we price out the proper sized tank and realize it's far too much for our budget. So we look for an alternative. We find a big splash step 2 kiddy pool for 30$ and an intek above ground pool pump $10, I enjoy the hobby of collecting random stuff in my house, so I had all the fittings needed. With the brook in the backyard we got some rocks and the proper lighting and basking area.
We were pretty proud of ourselves. Then we showed some friends, they though it was amazing for what we paid. Later on we seen an add for a turtle rescue on kijiji. We got Bert and he is currently in quarantine, but we feel he will get along fine once the group are back together, Bert had a bit of undernourishment, with pyramiding and a really bad shape shell, very dry that you could see the skin of his body between the cracks of his shell. he is now doing much better and we hope to have him introduced to the other two later on this week.
Anyways, that's my story of how me and my GF got 3 turtles. I hope to be able to learn and perhaps inspire many of you here about these great little dudes.
