My husband and I "rescued" a slider from a Chinatown street market when he was just a wee one about 5 years ago. I named the little guy Filbert (Rockos modern life... [And thanks to this site I figured out he's a male]). Over the years he has had a few habitat upgrades, however at 20 gallons we stopped. (I know, I know, the poor guy.) We wanted the next upgrade to be a good one, but we put it off for so long. I finally said enough is enough and have been scouring craigslist for tanks for a while now. But being in the area I'm in, it's not often a 50-100 gallon tank shows up and when they do they want something in at least the $100 range just for the tank... [!!!]. Anyways I finally gave up and just decided to go all out with a new one. I was able to get a 75 for $140 with the mesh top at a local pet store. Right now Filbert is in our office, but since it's such a large tank I'm going to move him to our living room. He's going to be a feature so aesthetics are important to me. Luckily I was able to find a decent looking stand for $140 online. Now I'm just waiting for the stand and canister filter that I also ordered online (took the economy route with a sunsun) to arrive so I can get going on this. I've been looking through the forums at different setups and I'm glad I did. I definitely want a substrate for decoration and I would have never thought of sand.
I can't wait to get the new tank set up. He will be so much happier with all the new room and Im looking forward to developing it with the help of this forum
Older pic but here he is
