Hello, My name is Kimmy and I own a Red Ear Slider. Her name is Speedy and she is about Two months old. I thought i was taking proper care of her until i noticed a lump on the side of her head. I researched this and found out that it seems to be an ear absess. I made an appointment with the vet and am going to visit today. The vet said that there will be antibiotics prescribed. I am new to this and would love any helpful advice from any other turtle owners!! :)
Her habitat used to be a lot of water with a platform for her to bask. I also have all the proper lighting needing including a heat lamp. She has rocks and fake pants and little objects she likes to climb on. Once i found out she has an ear infection i lowered her water to about 5 inches. She is in a 33 gallon tank. There are also other fish in her tank as well. is there any other changes to her environment i should be aware of??
Her eating habits are good. i noticed she has been eating less since her infection but i feed her the frozen baby turtle diet. She has also recently eaten a few of the fish in the tank... is this a problem?? also i have been giving her the dry turtle pellets which she seems to enjoy, is this also a problem?
thank you for any experienced output!!!!

I would like to say welcome...Im not a RES owner but used to have one. I have a map turtle but the care required for either turtle is the same.

How big is your turtle?

Only thing, about the basking light, be sure it is a UVA/UVB bulb. If it is, I would say all sounds good.

Maybe add some variety to his diet. Not familiar w/frozen turtle food except as a treat I feed mine bloodworms or brine shrimp. There is a sticky on their nutitional needs under the topic Food & Nutrition.

Good luck w/your friend, I hope it feels better soon. Stick around the forum. . . I learn something new everyday here!
