This goes over types of media: http://www.redearslider.com/filtration.html

Pot scrubbers act as mechanical filtration but I would get something appropriate for your filter. Eventually most of the surfaces inside the tank will have beneficial bacteria on it.

I want to thank you for your input you have taught me a lot. Thank you.And yes they are cute little kids.I found the Slider and bought him a pal.I know some people dont agree with taking turtles out of the wild but he is well taken care of.If it wasn't for him I'm not sure I would even be here now talking with all of you.Thank you for all the help. Any thing else I need to know about turtle care? I think I got the filtration figured out what about feeding or food? How much how many times a day? Water care do you check the pH etc weakly? Thanks

OK - it's a RES-focused site, but that little Mississippi won my heart !!! probably because I miss my Little M-Map, Jack
