Hello everyone! Nice to meet you! :D
I have two res now and they are my very first pet! One is Iggy and the other one is Mocha, dunno which one is a boy and a girl.... I got them about 4 months ago. Initially, I wanted to get myself a fish but then since I longed for turtles, I bought these two instead! Currently, they live in a small tank, not a very good choice really. I've been collecting money to upgrade their home; bigger tank, uvb lights, basking area, the works!
I hope I can make many friends here and learn more about my dearest res! :)

Whoa! Looks like everyone wants to see some pics! Okay then, I'll try to make the best out of my nightmarish phone camera :)

Here's Mocha! He/she was a sluggish little guy the first month I brought him home. He rarely eat and all he does was snoozin' underwater and didn't even mind looking at me at all! Now he's really active, digging the gravel like crazy and moving the rock so much. He still runs away when I try to put him in my hand, this was just a lucky shot actually. Maybe because he's curious about my phone....

And here's Iggy! He/she was actually very active the first month I brought him home. Maybe he swapped places with Mocha and becomes all sluggish and always snoozin' under water.... Even so, he still eats regularly and always trying to escape his super small tank.... He's quite hard to handle, he constantly runs away from me when I put him in my hand. I can feel his claws when he tries to 'dig' his way out of my hand...

And here is when I caught Mocha trying to escape with Iggy looking at him from behind! Since I'm a collage student and I'm only staying there for 3 years, they'll have to live and try to escape this tank for 3 years before they can move to a bigger and proper tank.... But hey! I do let them roam my small dorm room while I do my assignments! Which sometimes makes me laugh coz Iggy climbed into my sneakers and hid there, making this scratchy sounds as he digs deeper. And Mocha on the other side, he jumps like a frog as he chases the ants walking on the side walls....

Don't worry about the gravel! I got them removed a few days ago after I read a gravel post here. I replaced them with bigger gravels, too big to fit in their mouth~ :P

I love them!!!!!!!
Love the perseverance of the escape attempt - and the "look out" guy - partners in crime :)
Really, I can't believe that little one is strong enough to pull himself up that high!
Either keep something nearby so when he succeeds, he doesn't fall too far and hurt himself (a towel pile?) or put some wire over the top (like $3 at the hardware store)
Thanks for the pics! You got it! We love 'em!!!!

Oh yes, good idea with the towels! But I don't have small towels so I stacked up tissues instead. Mocha almost got away this evening, climbing on sleeping Iggy's back. Thank God he tumbled back to the water, my eyes were fixed onto my laptop and didn't notice him trying to escape!

I'm gonna start putting the lid on every time I'm far from my table or going out next time, their small tank is actually a guppy's tank.... :? I'm considering on buying a bit bigger tank coz I notice that Mocha is reaching 2 Inches soon. He was 1 Inch 3 which was 2 months ago! He really is growing quite fast, leaving little room for them to swim around. Especially when that rock already took most of the space inside the tank... :|

That's funny!
The lid sounds like a good idea at any time, as long as there is breathing room - a personal opinion, I will always vote for wire or something similar so they have lots of air, can see through it. and don't feel so trapped
If you can't get the wire, just cover the area he uses as a ladder (looks like his basking rock) - well, unless he is using his accomplice, Iggy then you may need to cover the whole thing.
As for what to put around the escape hatch - basically anything that limits the fall- a pillow, spare bed sheet, a dirty clothes pile - sounds YUK, but better than nothing :) Just be creative! I fear tissue will instantly squish - not helping him, and leaving you tissue-less :)
You can also push the bin snugly against the corner of a wall, with the escape route being in the corner - limiting other escape areas to only two sides.
Welcome to the world of RES keeping! We always have to stay one step ahead of their creative little minds!
Best Regards!!
