Two days ago, someone left a turtle in a milk container downstairs from my apartment, so I took it and got a tank for it. It's sad that I don't know where this turtle came from or how well it was cared for, or how old it is. He's big. I'm assuming it's a male. He has a white spot on the top of his shell which also appears to be cracked as if something was dropped on top of him. I took him to Petsmart to get get checked out. They said he looks really healthy and they told me that crack on his shell will heal itself. I'm going to take him back to get tested as soon as I get more money. I thought it'd be better for him to have a house first :) I've been reading so much, and I love this website. So any help on how to nurse this turtle back to a loving environment would be greatly appreciated!

Go to a vet not a petsore. That is a big thing about petstores giving wrong advice. Can we get a pic. White spot and crack worry me

I think you should be proud of yourself for saving him and giving him a home.
Unfortunately, something like a crack in his shell can be an issue.
I vote for a vet check-up. especially since you don't know his history.
People on this site may lynch me, but in reading your post I opt for spending my money on a vet before spending it on a habitat (provided you go right away)
Vet visits aren't that expensive and they can guide you on how to best care for your new pet.
Thanks for saving him!!!!
