Greetings turtle fans!

I have previously owned a snapping turtle, but this is my first RES. My friend's neighbor was giving one away and I decided to take it. I was told it was male, but after checking out the identification pics on this site I think it is a she. She was named Speedy and I guess I will keep that for now, unless something earth-shattering strikes me. She had been kept in a really poor environment...small tank, filthy, no heat, no filtration. The first thing I did was get her some heat and a bigger space. I don't have the money for a nice tank right now so I am using a very large plastic tote. Note to self...always check for leaks before filling completely...a tiny, insignificant-looking scratch on the side ended up leaking under the stress of all that water weight. I live on a creek, so smooth river rocks were abundant and she has a nice basking area and a piece of driftwood. I was worried because she didn't eat and was very lethargic for weeks after I got her, but since she is used to her new, more-spacious and warmer environment, she is very active, swims and basks normally, and begs for food ALL the time :) I will post some pics of her when I get some camera issues straightened out.

Peace

Cheryl
I am also parent to a ragdoll cat named P Kitty who is, fortunately, too lazy to give Speedy much more than an occasional dirty look.
