I am new to the site. Actually just signed up this morning. I have 5 turtles.3 are RES and the other 2 are yellow striped turtles. Jazzy Girl and Sniper are the oldest and biggest. They are 8 yrs old. They have been together since they were the size of a quarter. Now they are the size of my 2 hands put together! I took on 3 more turtles that were about 4 or 5 yrs old. They were going to be placed in a creek and I was afraid that they would not survive since they have been in a tank their whole lives. Their names are Dale, WIll, and Lil Mister. I also have 2 eggs that the oldest turtles had. I never thought they would mate. jazzy Girl nearly took Snipes head off when he tried 2 yrs ago. I cannot separate them now cause they are mates. I never thought to join a turtle group until I found these eggs yesterday and did not know what to do. I hope I got them out of the water in time! I am hoping this site can help me with any questions or concerns I have with my beloved turtles. Thanks

Sounds like you have your hands full. You are correct and no captive turtles should be released. What kind of setups do you have for your turtles?

I have 2 aquariums right now. I have the 3 that I adopted together in one cause they have grew up together and then I have my bigger ones in a larger one. I am looking to make a indoor pond habitat for them that is larger and more natural. I am worried with the eggs. Im not sure that I was able to get them out oif the water in time cause I dnt know when that day she layed them. I am incubating them now. Is there anyway to know if they are still viable eggs?

I guess you need to wait and see. Generally, we and other turtle sites do not recommend letting them breed because they are heavily over populated and require lots of care.

I had just never thought about them mating. Sniper had tried once years ago and Jazzy Girl nearly took his head off. So I just didn't even think about it again. The 3 that are in the other aquarium are all males. I cant separate the 2 bigger ones cause they have always been together since they were a few months old. I had been misinformed about it long ago that she wouldn't mate if her habitat wasn't right to lay eggs. So u can see why I am so surprised to see eggs in the water.
