Vear, I still haven't actually measured Bernie, but I'm estimating about 4.5 - 5 inches.This set-up is full of sort of temporary things. Currently working out designs for a custom ATBA/hood 2 piece combo. Probably a pair of freshwater/UVB T5HO fixtures over ATBA (which will cover half the tank) and the other side of the aquarium, as well as ceramic or night blue heat bulb over basking area because that spot bulb is killing my eyes. Would also like to install night blue led lighting, probably at or just below the water line.
I was thinking about making a feeding area as part of the ATBA. It would leave plenty of room for basking in addition to being large enough and just deep enough for Bernie to get in and eat ( sometimes Bernie's fish friends gobble up the turtle food before the poor turtle has a chance). It would be easily removable for cleaning and changing water... and could just as easily be replaced with a solid flush platform when it's not feeding time.
Thoughts on this idea? The goal is to raise the water level and remove that monstrosity (which I originally thought was genius) so Bernie and friends have more room to play.
Then again... Waiting to hear if a 65 gallon breeder aquarium will be available to me after the weekend. $45? Yes please. I love Craigslist

- Heading out of the cozy spot for a breath of fresh air. Just realized I need to remove those planters or at least the stones in them. The underwater plants aren't working out very well anyway. Need some floaters.

- Basking area needs a haircut, and I just trimmed it 3 days ago. Looks like it's time to vaccuum and top off the water.
55 gallon tank with a 4.5 inch RES, 2 Sarrassa Comets, 2 Red Tetras, 1 Giant Danio, 1 Black Fin Tetra, 1 Rosey Red, 2 Golden Chinese Algae Eaters, 1 Pleco, and 4 red claw crabs... too much? Ok, I'll get a bigger tank.
