Hello there everyone! My name is Jacque (pronounced like "Jackie").
I don't have a RES at this point in time, but I used to! It was a few years ago, and I was at my brothers camp site on the river and we seen some kids doing something on the bank. I walked over to see what they were doing and they were SMASHING newly hatched RES babies! We saved the last 2. I took one, and my brothers mother-in-law took the other. She took the one that a kid had stepped on, and he unfortunately died. I kept the one that the kids hadn't done anything to. (They had them in a small cardboard box before they smashed them) I didn't know anything about RES, but I did the best that I could by little Slowpoke Rodriguez. He lived in a small-ish tub with a lid. I gave him a place to come out of the water and a small amount of water. We had him for about a year and he went from about the size of a quarter to about the size of the palm of my hand. My son decided that it wasn't fair that Slowpoke didn't have a family, so, we took him to the pond in the park and let him go. Looking back, it probably wasn't the best idea, but, I didn't know what else to do at that point in time.
So, basically, I'm here to learn the right way to take care of one BEFORE I get one. I look forward to learning and then HAVING another RES! :D

Thanks! I have a ton of other pets. We have 2 retired Greyhounds, an American Eskimo Dog, we have a handful of Guppies (number change every couple weeks... LOL) 6 adult apple snails and about 300 babies. (Anybody looking for some purple apple snails? LOL) I have 2 tanks currently. A 20 and a 30 gallon. I think I would like to get another 20 gallon and turn the 30 gallon into my RES tank with an ATBA. I'm not sure tho because that tank is in the dining area and it has the patio doors right there. I was also thinking about putting them in my bedroom, but, that wouldn't give them much "people" time... *shrug* I guess I will figure it out... LOL

Hi Jacque, sorry to hear about the other RES :(

A RES would help you with that snail population... are there any other locations a tank can be placed?

Oh, I sell the snails... no need to get rid of them... *giggle*

I'm trying to figure out if I could manage a tank in the living room. It wouldn't exactly be an easy place to get to tho. :-/ We don't have an overly large house. Probably figuring out how to set up a tank in my bedroom would be the easiest place, just not the most ideal.
