My name is Johanna and 2 days ago my husband surprised me with the cutest tiniest baby RES turtle... Needless to say we were thrilled to have such a small adorable little critter with us... and then I started my research... so bear with me would you??
I found out that baby RES as tiny as I have her are illegal.. however my husband didnt know this, since it was sold on the street and he fell in love with her and brought her home. After many visits to every petstore in the area, and a few hundred dollars .. I still find myself scratching my head on this motherhood to her. Oh by the way, we have named her Donnatella!
I've read MANY (too many my husband says) websites and information and requirements and beyond... until I came across this website and then I was in heaven!...
I have no clue what I'm doing and if I'm doing it right.. I got the tank... I got the basking dock... I got the calcium stick, the little white turtle to prevent diseases, filter, water heater, lamp and live plants... on the 2 day she ate... SHE WASNT EATING AT ALL! and I went out again and bought her store bought worms... I got her the baby turtle pellets... however SHE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO CHASE THEM YET... she hides under the rock on a little corner and thats where she wants to eat... I try my best on doing this, but its not easy. she doesnt seem to recognize her food unless its moving towards her...
The water heater (I got yesterday and it didnt heat so I returned it and got a new one) doesnt seem to work either... I put my hand on it and ITS COLD... Is this normal??????
Also she seems to bask on the rock when we are not home and as soon as we enter the room she runs into the water and hides under the rock...
The water is about... 3 gallons... (she is a baby!) Do I need more????
