I am the proud mother to two *rescue* turtles that I have affectionately named Tootsie and Roll. I am brand new to all of this so you will probably see a lot of posts from me. Yay!
I have owned reptiles in the past, but turtles are entirely new to me. It makes me a little skittish.
Past Adventures of Tootsie and Roll :
I consider them rescue turtles because up until now their care has been mediocre at best. A friend of mine received them as a gift completely unaware of the care and dedication I know it takes to keep happy, healthy turtles. She gave them to me because she was afraid she would be the cause of an early demise and so I gladly accepted them. HOWEVER! I was not expecting them this soon! I wanted a few weeks to gather everything I would need for them and take in as much information as I could.
I don't have the correct filtration, basking area or tank size to accommodate these little beauties. I was given a 20 gallon tank, a filter for half that size, two rocks, ten pounds of gravel (>.<) and a fake tree thing that I am getting rid of asap. They were being housed in a 10 gallon tank to lighten the load on the filter, but it has still created some problems.
I have to do major water changes every couple of days until I get the correct filter or build my own (which is the question I will be posting right after this).
They are worth it though. I love them already.
I hope that in joining this forum I can speed up my research and put these little guys on a path to recovery.
