You have a slider, right? If you supervise your turtle, you can take him out every day if you want to. But, several times a week for 45 minutes to an hour should be fine. Don't let him get overheated.
You could also make an enclosure with water to put him in while he's outside (make sure he can't escape and nothing can get at him). Do not, however, put him in a glass tank---the glass magnifies the rays of the sun and the tank will heat up too much. If you put him in a container, make sure he has some shade to go to.
