Hello everyone, my name is Mike and I am the proud "papa" of two very young RES. They are both tiny little guys and live in a 20g tank in my bedroom, I'll update with pics later. I got them from a friend who had an over-crowded tank, and decided to let the smaller turtles go since they were living with different species. I am new to turtle owning (I've had them less than a week) but I've got a pretty comprehensive set up, and I believe they needed to be moved. I've also spend a lott of time reading online about how to raise RES and I'm no stranger to online forums, which is why I am here.
A little about myself, I'm in the Army and my turtles are my only pets. In the past I've had dogs, cats, birds, fish and hermit crabs, so I am no stranger to animals. In addition to the RES, I also care for a baby alligator snapping turtle, but he doesn't live with me. A friend has a same-sized alligator snapper and they live together in a 40g tank until I've got a good set up for him, seperate from the RES. Through research and personal contacts, I know exactly what it entails to care for a snapper, I am well aware of the difficulties. I saved him from death-by-seagull and he'll spend the rest of his days (decades) being cared for by humans.
Thanks for reading, I'm online pretty often when I'm not working (and something when I am), and I plan to remain a member here throughout my RES ownership.
