Hi all, I am new and have a sweet little red slider that I am worried about. He seems to want to eat but has trouble and I do not know if it is the other turtle that is keeping him from eating because he is the new guy in the tank and has been ok up untill the last couple of weeks. He was alright for the first couple of weeks and ate good, now not so good. What can I do? Here's hoping you may have a suggestion..Thank you . :(

When you say that he's the new turtle, are they both the same kind of turtle? How big of a set up do you have? Also what is he size difference? We are going to need a little bit more information to help assess the problem. I will say that two turtles that have been in the same tank from the very beginning may have to be seperated later because of aggression. Turtles are not an animal that needs a companion and most times have to be seperated. I personally think that it would be best to go ahead and seperate the two at least until you get some feedback on this site. If you don't have another tank, you can buy a cheap rubbermaid container at walmart for temp. set up.

Welcome. From what you wrote, I'm a little confused over who the new guy in the tank is and why exactly your sweet RES suddenly can't eat. Before a new turtle is introduced to an existing tank, it's recommended that he be quarantined for at least 90 days to help make sure that the new turtle doesn't have a condition that could be transmitted to your turtle...

Like Missibsu asked, how big is the tank they're in? What is the set-up like? What size are the turtles (shell lengths), and is one considerably bigger than the other?

Are you feeding them together in the tank, and if so, is one of them hogging all the food on the other one and not giving him a chance to eat? (If so, it would be better if they were fed separately.)

You need to give more information about your turtles and their habitat ...
