Hey guy/girls,

I've had 2 RES in the past but I had to give them away because I could not properly care for them. I'm giving it a second shot and opening up a 55 gallon tank hopefully for 2 beautiful baby turtles. I'm planning on building a wet/dry filter from scratch. I've gathered plenty of ideas from YOUTUBE videos and hopefully I can get started on the project tomorrow. All ideas that some of you may have will be useful so go ahead and drop them. Thanks.

May I suggest only going with one turtle. I recently gave away one of my two turtles, and the one left, is MUCH happier, and everything seems much more relaxed in the tank. You also never have to worry about breeding/agression, and all of that hoopla. But, it is your decision in the end :)

I agree that you should get only one turtle. If you are set on two or more, definitely be prepared for separation as early as a few months. I also like cork bark for the basking area, it's more natural and adjustable.

We'll im currently looking on craigslist to see who has any unwanted turtles and I i see two turts then im going for them but if i catch one turt then ill go for that one. I just hate having one turt by itself. I know i'd hate to be in a tank alone.

A belated welcome. :)

You may hate to be in a tank alone, but your turtle won't mind it at all.

(I hope by "catching a turt" you mean seeing one advertised.)
