Hello. I figured that this would be a good time to introduce myself. My friend got kicked out of her house and needed somewhere for her turtle to go, and I told her I'd take the turtle off her hands because it's not the turtles fault she's having problems with her parents. My apartment will only let us have a pet if they can be contained in an aquarium, so thus, I am now the proud owner of a Red eared slider. Upon doing further research about them, I think I need to get a heating pad, because my little turtle seems to sleep a lot. He's finally starting to get used to me being around and doesn't always get scared as soon as I show up. I'm going to be getting a bigger tank this weekend (the one he's in is clearly not big enough at 10 gal, silly me, i thought it would be fine). He has a turtle log for basking on and a lamp that I have on most of the day except for when I sleep. I'm pretty sure it's a he because it has long claws and a longish tail. I haven't been able to get him to eat pellets, but he was very happy to get some crickets this morning. I also fed him some Romaine lettuce on Monday. I think I'm going to try every other day of feeding. Anyway, he's a small turtle only about the size of my fist. He's pretty active, but I still think maybe he's sleeping more then he should be. He spends a great deal of time basking on his log. I think he's adorable, and I'm glad I made the decision to get a turtle. I'm learning a lot about little turtles after reading up on them. I really had no idea before I got him. His name is Sam I El (like the ugly creature from Hellboy) my friend named him, not me, but I thought it was kind of a funny name for a little turtle, and I'm calling him Sam for short. Anyway, hi :)
