Hello All,

I was so fascinated by this site; so much so that I decided to sign up. I have been navigating the site and reading almost everything I can. Looking forward to the experience.

My name is Ro, we have two beautiful aquatic turtles. They are my son's turtles. He moved back home to attend university and guess what; he said he was bringing his turtles home! I was not into this at all; however, once I had the pleasure to see these little darlings, I was hooked!!! He bought them from a really good pet store. I named them both after I had a chance to "bond" with them. Amore is the female and Volare is the male. Although they are appprox the same age, she is twice the size.

Both of my grown kids are saying that I am "obsessed" ....quite frankly, I am "turtle crazy"!!!

It looks like you have a RES for sure, but the other (larger) one is definitely something else... maybe a cooter?
Either way, both are very cute, I can see why you're crazy about them.

Thanks for the posts, everyone! I really feel at home here! To reply to megcornell from NY, NY:
Yes, Volarie is a RES and Amore is a Yellow-Bellied Cooter. I was informed that there was no such turtle as a YB-Cooter??? Anyway, she is twice the size as the RES and was extremely aggressive; she would attack, splash and chomp at anything even as far as ten feet away. I was terrified of her. I have spent a lot of time with them since. Now, I put my hand in the tank, rub their shells, stroke their heads and necks and hand feed them (because of the "Parana" goldfish; they are feeder fish that have grown so large and aggressive and steal the food from the turtles.) When I approach the tank, and they are basking, I sing their names; they know my voice and blink their little eyes...it is so cute! I love them!!!

Your turtles certainly are beautiful, and your story is similar to my mother's. When she found out I had purchased two RES she was not happy in the least but once I brought them home, she thought they were darling and would sit for hours just watching them play.

Thank you for sharing a photo of your turtles. Mine never sit still long enough to take a decent shot.

I am 21 going on 22, about to finish college and my mom "fears" she'll end up with Hank. It's good to know in a worse case scenario if she does for awhile, some moms, like yourself, have had a turn of heart <3<3

I'm not trying to brag, it's just that when I first signed up all the members help out so much that it is literally better than any book you can read because it comes from personal experience!

Hi koreyleigh! Wow, sort of the same situation as my son's! My son is living at home while attending university. I am sure that when he gets settled into his own place again, we will be keeping the turtles for a bit. He did say that he thinks they are my turtles now; he said he would have a hard time taking them, because he knows I love them. I may convince him to leave them with us and he can visit. LOL!

I hope your mom will be okay with it; once she gets to know Hank, she will most likely feel the same way I do. It is a lot of work though...so make sure she is fine with it first! Good luck and let me know how it goes?

Well they ARE yours now!! <3 and cuties they are.

I am not planning on leaving Hank at home when I move out.. but in the transitional period I might have to. The good news is, I catch my mom going in my room to watch him swim around sometimes so it won't be toooooo much of a burden.

Well...watch out, koreyleigh and jenisahyena! Your momma's may have the same reaction I have had, and end up "Turtle Crazy" over these lovely sweetheart creatures! Every single turtle has his' / her's own personality and you fall in love with their individual behaviours. The best to you both!
