Hey all, I'm Bree / Brearune, I'm 21 (as of today, actually :) happy bday to me) and i LOVE animals. I've had quite hte variety growing up... a large number of fish, bunnies from before i can remember, hamsters, rats <3, dogs, cats, just one reptile and one bird... I had been really into fish when I decided to give turtle's a try, got one at local petco a year and a half ago, or maybe 2 years ago.. it's been a while, either way. I knew some of the stuff, and did some research but the site i found was very vague and i don't think it was very good, which is really unfortunate... word to the wise: always look at MULTIPLE sites to confirm your information and get all that there is to know -_- don't just findone that "seems" reliable and completely put all your trust in that.

that site did not mention why it was so important that the turtle bask in a cOMPLETELY dry area.. it just said it's important to have a place to bask. It did say not to get gravel, so i knew that, but it said nothing about UVB lighting. A pet store guy ended up giving me the wrong lighting (DONt. TRUST. PET. STORE. GUYS!! they may be right some of the time, but it's best to just confirm anything for yourself first) and we went on like this for nearly two years until now. Luckily I did know some things at least, like she had a good heat lamp, a thermometer and water heater, a large tank (though now I need another bigger one -_- such fast growers!), great filtration and since I kept fish i know about water cycling, siphoning, etc....

so now I'm here, glad to be getting the right info and trying to get my turtle back into her best shape, hopefully before a big move into my own house in January. :) she's going to be coming along, too, not staying with my parents, and I'm pretty excited. Although, i'm moving in with my boyfriend who has a cat, so I'll have to seal up her basking area well hahah Oh well, we'll get to that when it comes...

Thanks for stopping by, ya'll XD

I LOVE rats, and if not for my cat, I would get some more in a heartbeat :) They are my favorite pets right beneath the big ones like cats and dogs.. like little dogs, but easier to keep, IMO. I plan on getting a huge bird cage in the future and getting like 8 rats XD I'll have me a rat army.

My ratties (who unfortunately passed away Dec 3rd almost 2 years ago :()

Ah Scootie is a himilyan, right? Tabitha is finally showing her coloration! when i got her i thought she was a P.E.W. but then she got that tell-tale brown smudge on her nose.
your babies are too cute!

BTW- i heard stories of rats and cats getting along.... ;)

LOL yeah, I heard stories too, but my Cedar (cat) doesn't like ANY other animals! My boyfriend, since we don't live together, has to have her while I have all other animals ;) we're going to be bringing turtle to his place when I move in, we're already antsy about that one! I can just imagine finding my cat lying on the basking dock..

and yeah, Sootie was a himi. Later on she started getting smudges on her body, too, just bad coloring from poor breeding, but she was the sweetest thing ever. she acted a lot like a male- very snuggly, not to mischievous... ratty was the classic girl who just wanted to go go go go!

Wow, thats sooo funny because Tabs is the same way! she is much more content snuggling down to watch a movie where as Kida and Jasmine are constantly on the go exploring my room and getting into anything and everything they shouldnt! I love the fact that she' a cuddler, makes her unique :)
