Hey everybody, i'm VERY new to turtles and have decided to get a couple in the next month or so. I went to Petco to get some dog food and I passed by a turtle tank and from then on I just fell in love. A few days ago I was lucky enough to buy a 55 gal. tank and so my journey begins...I've been reading a lot on this website getting ready to stock my tank :D I'm sure I will have many questions and i'm excited to start sharing pics and stories about my turtles. Have a great day everyone!

Welcome to the site!
You're wise to do your research BEFORE buying a turtle, it really saves money and frustration to know what you're doing before you get the turtle :-).
Keep reading through the main site and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My best word of advice is to only start with one turtle. If you do a forum search, time and again you'll see how aggressive RES are and how often they need to be split up. If you can't dedicate one tank per turtle, you should stick with one turtle in the 55g, that's a perfect size for a young turtle into adulthood, it'll last you a while.

Thanks megcornell, I was just looking into that. At first I wasn't sure whether to get two or one and all day yesterday I was reading about how aggressive they can be, so I decided to go with just the one turtle. Now i'm just working on getting the right filter and equipment. Thanks again!

In other word Hi, and you will become addicted to your turtles.
