Good news is after around 1 month of treatment the shell seems to be responding. Still has only around 4 claws though, not that that is life threatening.

The wood? Not sure, just some sort of hard wood bog wood. They sell it at the aquarium store quite cheap. But I had to cut it to size (I used it to support the basking areas) and it is as hard as bricks!!
