I've had turtles in the past. The website I made for my turtles over a decade ago is still up, you can check it here:

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Flats/1864

Unfortunately, all the turtles on that site are no longer in my care. I gave most of the babies away (caring for 13 turtles is a little much for me) and Pokey and Godzilla managed to escape from the backyard several years ago never to be found again.

At any rate, fairly recently some friends of mine gave me a turtle that they just couldn't take care of. He had some fungal growth on his shell and his shell was beginning to get soft. Since I had cared for and raised turtles in the past, I knew all the tricks and managed to get his fungus under control and his shell hardened up in no time. My friends had named him Freddy due to the long claws on his hands that resemble Freddy Krueger. He is now happily healthy and seems to be doing quite well. He enjoys incessantly swimming into the wall of the aquarium and biting at anything that moves in the close vicinity of his face. Within the past week I bought another RES to share the tank with him, and named her Fannie. Freddy and Fannie - get it? Anyway, they are both quite healthy and happy turtles.

The tank is pretty rudimentary - haven't had enough time to pour much money into a nicer one, yet.

Here's some pics, though.

Image

Freddy poses for the camera and is not shy at all.

Image

Fannie is under Freddy here.

Image

Freddy is really kind of a jerk, he pushes Fannie down to take a breath fairly often.

Image

Another pic of Freddy, Fannie is barely visible in the bottom.

Image

Fannie is usually the one who eats the most, Freddy is always too busy swimming back and forth to care about things like food.

Image

Fannie eating again.

Image

Clearly, Fannie should have been named Miss Piggy.

Image

Fannie in front, Freddy in back.

Image

Fannie taking a breath.

Image

Fannie on the move.

and here's a video:

Well fanny and freddie are the two gigantic mortgage companies, fanny mae and freddie mac. So it might be that. They do look huge though. How big is your tank? You should watch out for eggs soon.

nah, fannie is cold as ice and rejects freddy every time he tries to make a move.

I named fannie after the mortgage company because i already had a turtle named freddy, but freddy was named after freddy krueger.

If the male keeps pursuing her, she will eventually get fed up and become aggressive. Especially in such close quarters.

to be honest, there was some agression when i first put them together, but it was from freddy. he would incessantly bite at fannie. a couple days later i guess they made up because they get along great now. the frequency of freddy trying to make moves has gone way down as well.
