I just adopted two RES turtles, I was told that they are about 1 year and a half. I messured them and they are 2 and 2,5 inches long. Would that be a common size for this age? Thak you for your comments.

Hi Gia. I have two sliders exactly one and a half years old....I purchased them as hatchlings. They are the same size as your RES. Some will tell you they are too small. However, if they are healthy and housed properly AND are fed a proper diet, they are fine. I am sure you will enjoy them and they will grow. I am not certain anyone truly knows what the "correct" size is for a RES in captivity.

There are no set sizes. A typical size for a year old is about 4" but it is turtle genetics/environment/food dependent. As long as they are happy and healthy, don't worry about size or age. Since they are small-ish, they are probably still very young and will live a long time. My "hatchling" I've had for 6 months and he's 3.5" now, he started around 1.5". I'll be the first to say, post pictures!! We love seeing new turtles! Oh, and welcome!

Hi, welcome to the site! How big were your turtles when you acquired them?

They look healthy (and cute!) in the pictures. Where did you get them from? If they are only 2 inches they are on the small side for RES, but genetics and prior care can drastically affect size.
In any case, as long as they start shedding and growing in your care, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you don't notice any growth, it wouldn't hurt to have them checked for parasites as they can commonly stunt growth.

Thank you all. My neihbor's kids were no longer interested in keeping them, so I decided to take care of them. They are really cute and so very active in their new "lagoon" :)
