Hi everyone!
I'm new to the forum and I'm excited to say that my boyfriend and I just bought ourselves a RES about a week ago. We've been wanting one for about a year now but we took our time to learn about them and their care, and with adequate research done, we decided that a turtle would fit in nicely with us. We named him Slater (anyone familiar with Dazed and Confused?). We love him, he's been great.
We are familiar with the specific care required for reptiles and amphibians as I'm a VERY proud owner of a beautiful bearded dragon, and we had a tree frog aswell.
I'm excited about meeting some of you and I'm here to learn any further information about turtle care, and this seems like a nice place to come to.

Good for you for doing your homework before getting the turtle! I wish i would have done that, it would have saved me a lot of money on inadequate tanks and crappy equipment. Then again, i didn't plan on having a turtle at all, i just kind of "aquired" him from a friend who wasn't taking very good care of him and didn't want him anymore. I can't imagine not having him now though, he brings so much joy to my life, as i'm sure yours does for you. I look forward to hearing more about Slater, post some pics if you can, we all love seeing cute turtle pictures!!
