Hi I'm new here. I've had my RES for almost a year. The were sold illegally and given to me as a gift. they were only 2" when i got them. one of them is now 4" i believe but the other one hasn't grown at all. I was wondering if something could be wrong with him since he was so small when he was sold. he eats pretty well and plays a lot with the other one So i dont know what could be wrong. if anyone has any answers or has had the same problem with their turtle I would appreciate any feedback.

I would think both should be bigger at this point. How much are you feeding them? How often?

im feeding them both every day with a mixture of pellets and lettuce. when it comes to pellets I do about the size of their head. I feed them separately most of the time too.

What brand pellets? Are you sure both are getting the same amount?

Its called zoo med. I used to feed them both the same amount butt the little one sometimes just chews it and spits out little crumbs. I feed the big one a little more now and I'm still feeding the other one the same as before because I don't want to overfeed him.

What kind of "lettuce" are you feeding? Is it green leafy lettuce like romaine? Or iceberg? Are they getting any other veggies in their diet or protein? Cuttlebone? Are the pellets hatchling size or growth size? Maintenance size would obviously be much too large for them? When was the last time you measured them both?

I use green leaf lettuce I haven't tried other kinds of veggies. I use the hatchling one still for the one that isn't growing. the big one eats the maintenance size one in a single bite (3/16 size pellets). sometimes I cut up the maintenance one for the little guy. I wasn't sure what kind of protein I could give them and what they would eat so i haven't got anything else besides the pellets. I put cuddle bone in once every few weeks and they take bites of it here and there.
the container says its growth formula with 35% protein.
Its been a few months since i last measured them.

Can you post a picture of them? How do their shells look? Do they have a UVB lamp?

they are both currently sleeping since its night time where I live but I can take a picture of them side by side tomorrow. their shells are both a dark green, the little guy has always had two white spots on his shell since I got him. I thought it could be shell rot but it has never flaked off or been soft. Also he doesn't have it anywhere else on his body. hHe's a very fast swimmer too. both of their shells have a good hardness to them I believe. And yes I have a UVB and a heating bulb.

It looks like that's a white spot on Jimmy but that's just the reflection of the light above him. the spots I was talking about are on his left.

I'm not sure what white spots you're referring to. Are you sure both were 2"? They're usually even smaller when sold but they would still be a little bigger than in your picture. The shells look a little rough, like they've gone through a growth spurt.

I just measured them. Jimmy the small one is about 1 1/2 inches and Matt is about 3 inches, but the Matt was the same size as Jimmy when I got him. I got the Jimmy last December and the Matt in March.

Do they poop normally? Maybe it's genetic, but its very unusual.

Yeah they poop a lot. I have to clean out the filter every few days. Matts poops are bigger but I think Jimmy poops more often.
