Pet Store Turtle Situation

I have to vent to people who will understand besides my wife! I was at a major pet store this past weekend buying some stuff and I took a peek at the animals they had for sale. These three poor RES were in a set up basically the exact opposite of what it should be. Gravel bottom, very little water (they couldn't even swim) and of course in an enclosure way too small. I understand that it's not economical for a pet store to have a proper set up for an animal that will probably be sold soon anyway, but it's frustrating. People will look at that enclosure and think that's suitable. I wanted to talk to the manager, but I just left. Does anyone feel as irritated as I do? Has anyone ever confronted a pet store owner/manager? Just curious. Thanks for letting me vent!

there is a store around here that did the same thing. The newts on the other hand have the tanks the turtles use to. Now there is one newt to a tank and 3 turtles in one tank where they can't even lay flat in the water, since there shells hit the tank and the basking rock, with only 4 inches of water. If we go in there my wife usually makes me leave before I get to the point of talking to someone about it.

They usually won't listen or care but some will. If it's a major chain, they might have a corporate office that will also take action.

I tried to point out a dead RES on the basking rock at Petco and was told he was "resting."

The Petsmart here in Beaumont is like that. Fortunately we have Ashley (who is a member here as well) that works there to try an educate anyone that takes the initiative to learn. I know it makes her sad the way they live there, but they usually find homes pretty quickly at $20.00 a turtle. I wish I could buy them all and set them free myself.
