Two more join the crew!

Last night cruising CL looking for stuff I can spend money I dont have on, I came across a add for 3 RES. Not just Ordinary RES, but miniature ones.. A bit confused and also a bit intrigued I open it... They are hatchlings!! Automatically I contact the person (14yr old kid) and ask how long he has had them and found out his parents bought them from turtleshack [not reputable] (go figure) about a month ago thinking they where going to be tiny all their life and never need anything bigger then a 5g tank with pea gravel on the one side to allow them to get out of the water. Thank god they at least had a basking light.. They are actually in pretty healthy looking. Bright colors, clean, active and love attention.
The one was already adopted by someone who has had turtles before, but could not take the others. As you can guess, I now am the owner of 2 more RES.
As a temp, the only tank I could get them into was a 10g tank and I put about 2" of water, a few rounded stones that are fully submerged and a floating dock.. I think a 100% improvement just knowing they are with someone that dont think they are miniature turtles!

Good on the rescue, but man I wish breeders will stop with this already. If the little ones have a good appetite, then I think they're going to do fine :)

They seem to have a appetitie. I put about 8 kelp pellets in there and a slice of apple (pretty thin sliced) and they will take a few bites from the apple and eat all the pellets. They are becoming more active as days go by and they get used to their new environment, which is expected. Time to rethink the design of the pond!

That's awesome! I saw an add on craigslist a couple days ago. The guy can't take care of the RES anymore, selling the 20g tank and the whole set up, including turtle for $100. Was about to jump on it, then realized he's 5 hours away......almost!

And this is why I start with the FREE section, because I do this far more often than I want to admit. ...and it's how I ended up with most of my turtles too.

Good on you for rescuing the little guys!

I would pay extra for miniature turtles. Somebody needs to get on this.

Well, night #3 and they are loving it! Extremely active, and LOVE the attention everyone gives them throughout the day.Their colors have dramatically become a bit brighter and they seem to be shedding their skin. I was going to see if I could find homes for them, but now they are family! Neo has boot print markings on his plastron so he got nicknamed "boots".. Morpheus' plastron has a extremely beautiful design that I am considering getting tattooed on me. Yes.. I am a sportbike ridin, rock n roll listenen, tattoo gettin dog ownin cat ownin crazy turtle owner..! With a wife and 3 kids.. I need a stray jacket  :D Wouldnt trade any of them for anything in this world!

They are just over the size of a quarter. They like to "pal" around and pull the "we are cute" on my wife all the time.
