After one and a half years of keeping Rangers tank algae free my snail passed away. I know he died of old age and wasn't murdered by Ranger because he was intact when I picked him up. I noticed he stayed in the same spot the entire day which was unusual cause he was always moving around or at least stuck on the walls. I pulled him out and smelled him and he was a bit stinky and then he fell out of his shell. Kinda upset but Im going to go buy more of these snails their awesome and I recommend them to anyone for their turtles tank.

I've always wondered about these snails. They seem to make easy targets for turtles because of the wide shell opening. How did he avoid getting eaten by Ranger?

Thanks guys. And I really have no idea I've had about 8 snails and all 7 of them have either been killed by ranger or sucked up by the filter and this one never got attacked or sucked up. I think him being black with creme stripes kinda made him less noticeable also he never was not attached to the walls. Under my ATBA it's pretty dark and he spent most of the day under there.

My uncle became an unintentional snail breeder with his fish and frog tanks, but because of their usefulness, he just started offering them to people on his fish and frog forums, who happily accept the little buggers. It's clear he's somewhat fond of them, because he never moves to harm them even if they overpopulate at times.

I will talk to him! I don't know what kind he has, they're just "normal" round shelled snails as far as I know, but I'll see if he's got any looking for a good home! It's been a while since I've been over to see him, so I'll have to ask how that's going.

Sorry to hear about your snail . I actually just picked up one and a blue mystery snail from the pet store over the weekend. I'm trying not to get attached them in case our turt decides to murder them. But I'm a bit partial to our zebra nitrite due to the coloring on his shell .
