Other Turtle Discussion :: Anybody have a map turtle?

I was wondering if anyone here has one?

My map turtle Mowgli loves being in the water & rarely takes time out to bask. He pretty much spends most of the day in the water. But that isn't the strangest thing he does. He also is extremely obsessed with a particular tankmate of his...a fish. He isn't interested in eating it (they've been co-habitating for over 2 years). He does this whole shaking of his head thing in front of this fishes face. I swear he wants to mate w/it...he's so obsessed! He spends alot of time watching & fixating on her (the fish, its female).

I leave him w/my neighbor when Im out of town & they have a RES. Well, Mowgli of course is obsessed w/their turtle & tries mating w/it. He is such a horny thing! Course their turtle just sits there & lets him do it.

Is this just some of the typical map turtle "quirks"? Anyone elses map, or any turtle for that matter behave similar?

I had one. It could be a sign of aggression, not mating if he's trying to eat the fish as you said.

But he's not trying to eat the fish...it's too big anyway. I don't think aggression either cuz he does this w/my neighbor's RES. He completely ignores the other tankmates BTW.

Oh sorry, misread that. Ya it's possible he's just really horny. lol
