Other Turtle Discussion :: Anybody Red Eared Slider ever do this???

Hello (: I own a male red eared slider for about 16 years now, I usually take him out of his tank & he likes to walk around on his own in the bed haha but since i had him he always had this habit of following me whenever im in bed on the laptop or just reading a book, he stares at me with curiosity & starts to follow whatever seems to move, & i don't know if he is getting excited or nervous, but he then pees i believe, when the object is lifted up, it can even be my own hand he looks at & still lifts his head up & start to do that bubble looking in his throat quickly. I don't know why he does this, but im curious myself. Any ideas would be helpful thank you.

Hi, welcome to the site. They usually pee when they are stressed (confined or handled excessively).

he also prob follows you because you feed him n he thinks he will get a treat. RES can identify people they know like a dog. also RES r pretty smart. iv seen videos of people that teach there RES tricks

Yes, but once out and away from water that instinct is greatly reduced. Some are very curious animals... my male RES likes to follow me around too but not my female.

thats interesting that the male follows you and the female doenst, i wonder if this is a very common pattern? I know kaya doesnt follow me shes always looking for an escape route

My male RES used to follow her around too. He eventually became very aggressive towards her, so they have to be apart now. He likes to poke around and smell things too.
