Mating question, probably already posted but I can't find it

I have a stupid mating question, I'm sure it has been post before but I just couldn't find it, Steve is probably going to kill me for posting but I am truly concerned.

I have been out of the turtle loop for some years and I find myself needing help all over again.

We have a RES and a paint in the same tank we bought them at the same time. April was originally supposed to be a Leonardo, but I think the guy at the pet store must have grabbed the wrong one and we didn't notice right away, do to being busy getting the tank cleaned and ready. (free tank from a co-worker who was moving).

Anyhow…. the paint appears to me a male and my RES is definitely a female. I did some research and I think I found the answer, but I wanted to confirm. The two turtles constantly mate, but I am not sure if they can actually breed. I just want to make sure that if she could that we got her the right environment to lay.

PS also lately there has been lots of foamy type bubbles at the top of the water, IDK if there is any correlation

The foamy bubbles have nothing to do with it like you said. Well, ive seen some very weird hybrids that i thought could never breed together but it shouldnt happen but you never know. In a very rare chance they might be able to make a hybrid turtle since they're all in the the same subfamily classification.

Though i have not heard of a res/painted hybrid before.

res/map is only one ive seen so far.

My husband pointed out that her but is hard and today happens to be a nice sunny day so we let them outside. She has taken to a particular corner of the yard that has dirt …..we are watching her carefully right now. I just don't want her to get neglected if they did somehow breed. I had read before that they couldn't….. but who knows.
