Other Turtle Discussion :: Don't Know This Turtle's Breed :S

Ok so i took in my friend's three turtles for the winter, because being uneducated, he didn't have the right equipment for his turtles and one of his baby turtle's died. So until he has set up his tank with all the right things i've taken his babies into my care. Now i already have a 2 year old RES and whilst checking the genders of the turtles i noticed that one turtle did not look like an RES. I knew it definitely had the shell and skin patterns of a YBS BUT not the same face... His face is a pale yellow, with alot less patterns on it, especially around the mouth. His nose is snouted and his eyes are round with very big black pupils. Looking at him from his body you would instantly say he was a YBS but from his face im almost sure he has another breed. Does anyone know what the other half of his mix is????

Regardless i find him adorable!!!! but i would just like to know

Oh and his tail is reeally long for a 1 year old and his shell is smoother and does have the curvers around the edges ... im wondering maybe a mix with a pig nose?

It's not a mix with a Pig Nose, that's impossible, different Genus.

Here you go. Please be aware that he does have patterns on his shell but since he has never basked, his shell is in very poor conditions at the moment and you cannot see them. I am tending to his shell at the moment. He is EXTREMELY shy, something i am not used to since my RES is very social and looooves attention.
He will not bask. I have tried cooling the water and giving him privacy. I have even put in the baby RESs who were his old tank mates to encourage him (as they are basking fine and are not shy). Although he seems more comfortable with them, it hasn't helped. Does he just need more time? Could it have something to do with the personality of his breed?

athough it doesn't show as much, his tale is quite long.This turtle is smaller but his tail is longer than my two year old's. I am also confused by this because, his nails are short owo

Well he is not a slider species, that is one thing im sure of. Other then that im actually at a loss for IDing this turtle. Hopefully another member Limus takes a look at this topic. Its usually me and him that are the only ones really good at IDing species of turtles. It seems like ive seen it before though but right now at a loss. Wish the pics had more coloring to them. I know those eyes are the iding feature. I know ive seen it before.

Looks like some kind of pond turtle. Pond turtles have the long tail mentioned.

Thanks for the input guys! Yeah, I thought he was just a regular slider till i saw his eyes, they're gorgeous; which makes me more determined to ID this turtle! Feel free to post it if you think it will help

Googling the pics, he's definitely a Caspian. Not only that but i feel like an utter idiot now because one of the countries that Caspian's are centrally found is Bahrain..... guess where i live guys? =.=

Apparently they're really rare in my country now! So ill be taking EXTRA great care of him!! Oh btw... it's definetly a him right??? because like i said his nails are short.

Yes looks like a him. The long nails only applys to some aquatic turtles. Most aquatic turtles do not get long nails as a way to tell between male and female like sliders. Only sexual difference they get is usually is overall size and tail length.
