Do they need a hideout of sorts in a controlled environment? I know that some turtles hide to stabilize the microclimate during cold periods, but I saw somebody had a half-buried ceramic flower pot in a tank, to make a "cave" where a turtle can swim in and hide. Do they need one to feel safer and less stressed?
My turtles seem to be very stressed when i come by, or when I take one out to handle, all that after a month in my house. Will that help them calm down and get used to their new habitat?

Sheldon appreciates his little hide out area I make for him. In the corner of the tank, usually under his basking dock, I have driftwood in the foreground and a big leafy plant in the back corner. It is his favorite place to hang out while napping or resting, I can tell he feels comfortable there.

Hiding areas are a good idea. Just make sure it's something they can't get stuck in.
