So a neighbor came over the other day with this little one. She wanted to know what she needed to raise it. I promptly told her that raising and taking care of turtles is expensive and you shouldn't take them out of the wild.

He's so cute so I'm keeping him for myself! Just kidding... I took him to the local reptile vet because I thought he might be too small to be on his own. The vet agreed, probably thinking we got displaced from the recent storm. So he's going to raise it until it's bigger and then release it.

But what is it, the shell looks like it could be a snapping turtle?

Some kind of mud turtle, but I can't quite name the species. You want shallow water, with lots of hiding spaces.

Actually, it might be a N.A. Wood turtle, I just can't tell from the pictures.

Snapping turtles have way long tails when babys.

It's certainly precious. The vet asked if I wanted to raise it then release it but I had to turn down the offer.

Picture has strange coloring itself and is dark but, relooking its either between razor, flattened musk turtle, or a logger head. A pic of bottom of shell and directly above are best pics for iding species. Either way its a musk turtle haha.

Ya its a musk, but I don't know what kind...can I post the pictures on another website to try and find out.

They are not sure if it's a Loggerhead or a 3-striped.

Can you get pictures of the top and bottom.

I'd say you can throw out the 3 striped idea as the species. Not native to their state.
