I stopped at my local pet store to take a look at the prices of fish. They had a "sale" on mixed platys ($1.69 each), so I had the owner scoop out a few. I ended up with 5: Eenie, Meenie, Minee, Moe, and Beyonce. They are named as such because I figured when Filbert eats them up, it will be like the "eenie, meenie, minee, moe, catch a tiger by the toe..." rhyme. And Beyonce is named as such because it is the only platy that has been smart enough so far to hide in the fake log. (Beyonce has the song "Survivor"..., lame I know.)

At first, Filbert was actually afraid of the platys. He would get close enough to check them out, but when they would flit away, he would take off in the opposite direction. Then Filbert chased them around for a few hours. They have been in the tank for 9 hours and they are all still alive! I even bought an ugly, neon-colored "hide out" from Walmart for them to hide in. So far, Superman (the plecco) has been the only one to check that out. The only lame thing is that I thought I had left-over fish food from my goldfish (Brand and Angelina, RIP), but I must have thrown it out. Will platys eat regular goldfish food?

I think goldfish flakes are OK, I also read they liked to nibble on algae too. It'll probably just take some time for Filbert to gobble them up
