I am always on craigslist in search of fabulous deals, and quite often come across posts about turtles. Usually something along the lines of, "Need to rehome 4 turtles" with attached picture of a 10 gallon tank with a couple inches of water in it.

I have decided to respond to these posts, pleading with the people to give correct info to people looking to take their turtles, and begging them to pass on the redearslider.com website. Also, I have been giving tips on the pictures of the current setups, and trying to give them better lives until they have a forever home. So far I have had really great feedback!

I wish there was a way to get the big-box pet stores to start recommending this site BEFORE they sell turtles

My local pet store has my email so they can shoot me questions customers have about turtles I always refer them here, but so far no go

The Petco by my workplace, their turtles are actually pretty healthy. They take good care of them.

One time, I took a look at their reptile care books, just out of pure curiosity, and a manager happened to be standing near me. So, we got to talking about the book and he said they normally give out care sheets for the turtles and other reptiles. I recommended this website, and he seemed genuinely interested in taking a look. Perhaps it has helped!

Another time, one of their turtles had what looked like a bacterial infection, and I pointed it out and the woman I spoke to seemed very worried about the poor little girl. My thing was, I know you have a business and I understand that, and you need a vet to confirm this. If you can scrub the shell and it comes off, I wouldn't worry about it, but, if it stays put and smells funky, definitely go to a vet. She'll have to be separated or you'll be selling sick turtles to a lot of people, this stuff spreads like crazy.

They have another woman working there who used to breed Colombian red tail boas, and she is very knowledgeable about snake/reptile care. I like her a lot.
