Hello,

I am wanting to make my own Aquarium/Tank for my turtles and I'm thinking of making it out of Plexiglass,
I was wondering if it is a good idea and if so what type of Plexiglass would you recommend I use.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The measurements for the aquarium/tank I want to make are as fallowing,

4 Feet Long

2 Feet Wide

19" High

At that length and with plexi glass - thickness is not as important as support. If you build supports along all the walls you will avoid bowing of the plastic (which could cause snapping if the degree becomes extreme enough)

Plexiglas is a brand name for a type of clear acrylic sheet. I don't know if that's what custom tank builders use, though you can expect a premium price on anything brand named.

Check reef building websites, there will be more people building custom tanks on those forums.

I've built a few tanks. There Are two types of sheet acrylic. 1. cell cast and 2. Extruded. You definitely want cell cast acrylic. If you have never spent any time working with acrylic, have it cut for you by the plastics shop you got it from. Weld-on is used to fuse the pieces together and can make a permanent mess very quickly. Building an acrylic tank is not for the feint of heart and should definitely not be your first acrylic project.
