I don't mean an actual living tick but like what some people have where they do repetitive stuff.

I brought this up a while back and didn't really start thinkin about it til now but Niko's always done this weird thing with his mouth. When he's under water just chilling or swimming he drops his jaw ever so slightly like a lizard would to lick its nose. He does this almost like clockwork every few seconds.

I can't say constantly as I don't always watch him but it's just something he seems to always do when I look at him... so ya, maybe constantly, but like I said it's only every few seconds that he does it. The best I can describe it is that it's like he cracks his mouth open so far as if to take a sip. I first noticed this like around June of last year and he's been fine ever since and swims straight and has no health issues to speak of so thats why I described it as a "tick".

Again, this is all underwater... when he basks he doesnt keep his mouth open or anything like that to suggest an RI and on that note, for arguments sake... if he did have an RI he wouldnt still even be alive right now after discovering this "tick" in June of last yr.

oh man, i didnt think they could bite that hard but i still have a bite mark on my finger from last week. its cute cuz its just two little half circles, but it hurt really really bad :/
but yeah if your turtle is eating fine and been good for a year then i wouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on him and who knows maybe its his personality, or it really is a tick, hmn have you tried looking it up on google or something?

To many weird things come up but ya hes doin good so im not gonna worry much, just seems to be his thing. Also, ya... he bit down good on me. If i wanted to I could have pulled my hand up with him just hangin there clear out of the water. Thats how hard he got me the one time.

Here's a thought... maybe the mouth thing are jaw exercises and thats why it hurt so bad LMAO

Well with the ever slow slightly jaw movement like your saying underwater. If its just slightly then thats normal. All my turtles do that

Ya, showing off how powerful his mouth is LOL

leopard167 wrote:@morebloodwine, btw whats eoj marketplace?

It was a site based off of the PS3's game EyE of Judgment, a turn based card game... it's now a generalized gaming site catering to all gaming platforms.

I also have another site myu2sig.com where people can generate gaming sigs with their stats for the PS3's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

This is what those look like...

I see both of my turtles doing this and I think its got something to do with the way they "smell" things under water. My guess is they have a way to close their air pipe and they suck in small amounts of water and pass it out through their nasal cavity. Mine do it rapidly when food is near.

Possible, Nikos is healthy and happy and still does this "tick" thing so that very well could be what it is.

Another odd thing I noticed when they're in the water is when they stick their heads out a little it looks like they inflate their neck to keep themselves floating. Its kinda cool.

You can see here, their necks get real big. I think it helps them float so they can watch you. :p

I've seen that a little with Niko but never thought much of it.
