This was quite a while ago, but I thought I would share it.
It was such a cool experience and I feel so very fortunate to have been able to see this wonderful event of nature.
If you notice the two police men walking over, they were there to take the eggs to a laboratory so that they would not get stolen or eaten by wild animals.Therefore, the could ensure that the maximum amount of eggs possible would hatch. As many of you know, the sea turtle population is running dangerously low. We are fortunate enough to have 6 of the 7 existing sea turtle populations living in our bay. We often see many turtles while out in our boat but never have we had such a neat encounter such as this.

You are very fortunate to have experienced such a thing.
To my knowledge with other species of turtles,you are not supposed to rotate the eggs once they are laid, or if you do move them, you must mark the top with a pencil and keep them in that position due to an air pocket that the embryo uses to breath while it's in the egg.Not sure if the same rule applies with sea turtles, but it doesn't seem like the officers where doing so.
Hope they all hatch and get returned to the sea.

Hmm I have never heard of that... that's a very interesting thought, but we were notified that all the eggs were successfully hatched and the babies returned to the sea. There is a rescue center near my house where they often release many turtles so, I am not sure whether that rule applies to sea turtles or not!

That's really great, esp. that the police are ready and waiting to move the eggs to safety. Hopefully you get to experience that many, many more times so the sea turtle population starts to grow again.

Wow, that was pretty cool. I wish I was lucky enough to see something like that in person.
