I love my RES. I really do. I've had him since I was seven and have just come to the conclusion that I've been selfish all this time. On this site are the specifications on what you need to make your RES happy. I don't have the space nor the means to do this.

Turtley is an 8" RES and I can no longer bring myself to keep him in conditions that won't make him happy. So I would like to find someone that really cares for turtles to take him in. From what I've seen on this forum you all love your turtles as much as I do. They can have the equipment I have if they want it although I know it isn't adequate. I live in the Imperial Valley in California. If someone could take Turtley in please let me know. Here are some pictures of him:

I sent you a private message about sending him my way and also with a link on how to ship turtles. its not very hard and Im pretty sure it dont cost a whole lot. let me know what you think.

What this site mentions are only guidelines, not a formula to make your turtle happy. A few simple upgrades can go a long way, we'll all be glad to offer some suggestions.

If I were the keeper, it would be very, very hard for me to give up that turtle...

jwinters: I agree with the above posters. What a beautiful RES!! Have you thought about doing some simple upgrades? Sites like Craigslist can be VERY helpful in finding anything from tanks to thermometers. You literally never have to pay full price for anything! I know you are trying to do the right thing but I would hate to see you part with your RES because you thought you couldn't take care of him. We'd all be happy to offer any advice on how to care for your RES.

I would love suggestions. I really don't want to let go of Turtley. My Mom has been bugging me for years to donate him because of his size, but I really would like to keep him.

Turtle Mummy 101: I've tried craigslist. They haven't had anything in my area. I don't want to regret it either.

Here in Canadaland, you can find them in large superstores like Wal-Mart, home improvement places like Lowe's or Home Depot, and local feed and grain stores. The ones in the livestock feed stores are enormous though...

jwinters, I googled "50 gallon stock tank" and came up with a lot of hits. Do you have any hardware/home improvement stores near you? I saw the 50 gallon rubbermaid online for about $60. You can spend a little more time than I did and find them for less, even used.

There's both a Lowes and Home Depot where I live. There are also feed and grain stores since this is an agricultural area. I've been looking into it now.

yeah the rubbermaide tubs dont LOOK 50 gallons but they are, there basicly the things people use to move all there stuff from house to house on moves, or to pack stuff away in closets, or clothing or what ever if im right...
