ok so I just gave some rosey reds for the first time and he won't go near them. has anybody else had this happen with there first live feeding?

How young is your turtle?

The first time I fed my 3 inch baby 5 rosy minnows he ignored them. Half an hour later when I checked up on him there were only 3 left. Who knows, maybe yours was not hungry at the moment.

Maybe he isnt hungry

or maybe their too big for him

He prob just dont know there food yet Mine knew fish were food right off the bat at like 1 inch and tore minnows UP. Once my 3 ate like 25 minnows in 1 day because I like to just throw them all in the tank.

yeah he might not be hungry I just hope he dose eat them at some point lol.

Well i gave my hatchling a minnow and he didnt eat it for 3 days

and then when it died i seen it on the rock dead one day and was planing to take it out later on

but when i went back to remove it..it disapeared..maybe he ate it when it was dead..?

You should start off feeding him dead ones. Then he knows they are food, at will be extremely happy with live ones

Yes, mine didn't go near them at first. I still have a minnow in there from last September! lol. He's huge.

You can catch one and hold it by it's tail and see if the turtle will go after it then.

Hey mine were like that at first,i tough they were friends of fishes so i added a lot of pretty friend for them,after 2 months one morning they decided it was enough and all the fishes were gone in less then 2 hours.

ive had 9 in with my turtle for a few months now. he chases them but cant catch them. so idk

yeah I went to work today and there were 3 reds in his tank I came home and theres only 1 leftlol.

Turtles will eat feeder fish at random. Sometimes I think it's because they are omnivores, in combination with eing in captivity and never really seeing a fish before.

I haven't given mine any yet. Mine are pretty into chasing my fingers, so, they will probably go right after feeder fish.

Yeah when a turtle has not seen fish before or have and just havent had fish in a long time. they usually go after them untill they get them. when I first started giving mine feeder fish I would throw 1 fish in there with 3 turtles and they all went after it untill they got em.

My turtles had no problem eating anything. 4 turtles in a tank then one is bound to eat something and the other just follow. I drop algae waffers into my tank to feed my plecos and one bites it, another tries it and soon my plecos are starving.
