4'' Rule.. In Canada?

Hello fellow turtle lovers!
I know in America there is that 4'' rule which prohibits pet stores from selling turtles under 4''. I'm just wondering if Canada has similar laws to this? My guess would be no since i've seen turtles here (under 4'') widely distributed in the smaller pet stores.

Just curious...

No, there's not a 4" law in Canada. Some provinces have different rules regarding turtles though. I think in Alberta you're not allowed to sell turtles, but you're allowed to "re-home" them. You are however allowed to bring turtles into the province.

Hey my friend,french canadian here(quebec).

No there is no inch rules, you can pretty much buy turtles any size you want anytime you want.

The only turtles we cannot own are the one that are native to canada,(eastern/western painted).

I didn't know about the painteds not being allowed here. I've recently seen a few (not sure eastern or western) for sale in a pet store.

Well, with the native species, I think it's province to province. So for instance, here in BC I wouldn't be able to buy or keep a western painted, but I *think* you'd be allowed to have one in Ontario. I tried to find some info on that sort of thing once, but didn't get very far.

One of my friend was obsessed trying to get a painted turtle,he called most of the petshop in montreal and he ended with southern painted which was the only one allowed to sell in quebec.

western painted look damn cool, maybe in a few years il go to the USA and buy one there.

I would think that whether or not a native species was allowed to be owned would also depend on whether or not it was an endangered species or one of special concern.

Southern turtles are the only species of painteds that can be legally owned in Ontario.
