I am upgrading Pete toa 75 gal in 1-2 months. Any filter suggestions?

The XP3 is a good buy and works well. People also like Eheims, Magnums and Fluvals. Whatever you choose, a canister would be best, one that's rated for about 3X the size of the tank.

I see the XP3 and Fluval 404 are rated at 100-120 gal tanks. Does that mean I need 2-3 of them in a 75-120 gal tank?

Im not sure how good the Xp3 is but the fluval 304 is AMAZING. I dont know how I ever lived without a canister. The moral is, it doesnt matter which you buy as long as you pick the 304. Err, i mean, go to bigalsonline....print out the cheap price, then go to petsmart and pricematch it so you get their warranty and no shipping.

No. You need to use the 2-3 times rule on their rate of flow. The XP3 cycles the water at a rate of 350gph. It will work great on your 75 gallon tank. I am using it on my 90 gallon tank.

Thanks for the info. I'm used to keeping tropical fish, so my filter requirments were way less.

I have to disagree, I have a 150 gallon tank and used a Magnum 350 AND a Whisper 3 (the dual) on it and that was not enough-- The Magnum 350 is rated for a 100 gallon tank and the Whisper is for a 60 gallon tank.. I would use 3 - 4 X the rated tank size not the filter output. Right now on the 150 gallon tank I am using a filter rated for a 1500 gallon POND! For a 75 gallon tank I would use no less than a filter (s) rated for a 225 to 300 gallon tank and for a 120 gallon tank, I would use a filter (s) rated for a 360-480 gallon tank. When you need to get that big with filtration, it can be easier to buy 2 canisters, or as I did a pond filter.
