remember how large the RES' range is. turtles from different areas do have different patterns. I have found turtles in TN that are much different that ones you'd find in georgia, or mississippi. The ones in FL are also very colorful like yours. Most of what you find at petsmart or petco are farmed animals, with a mixed pool of different localities. I have found some cumberlands in petco, and some intergrades.
by post orbital, I do mean the red mark behind the eye...the shape is the most important key feature in identifying a Rio Grande. either the red blotch does not touch the eye, or it is very compressed like the photo I posted, then widens as it goes back. Your turtle very well could be the product of a farmed turtle, that has some Rios in it..but it is not a pure Rio.
