I have two red earred slider turtles. The older one is about 8 to 9 inches and the younger one is maybe 5 or 6 inches. the smaller turtle is continually in the older turtles face. I read that when mating, the male will rub the females face. is it possible that the smaller one is male and trying to mate with the older one? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Possiable but the fluttering of the claws is also their dominance dance. One trying to show the other one whos boss of the area. Both males and females will do this. If you want you can post pics of your turtles and we can sex them for you so you know truely if your turtles are male or female.

Yes! I have the same question even and I`ve made a short video viewtopic.php?f=15&t=34747 how it looks in real life. May be, it is dominance dance...
